In this project, I explore the process of mesmerise. The motif of the windmill evokes the experience of being hypnotised. Jan Kott refers to the phenomenon of power swallowing up political actors as the "Great Mechanism". Sergei Guriyev calls spin dictatorship those regimes where the leaders filter and twist the information presented to citizens, thus magically shaping the reality perceived by citizens by seeking total control over the information of the population.

Petra Inez Combarro - Dorottya Szonja Koltay: Block Bougie
“The joint exhibition of Petra Inez Combarro and Dorottya Szonja Koltay captures different aspects of storytelling. While Combarro's reinterpreted knick-knacks are seen as a value-saving retelling, and the social and material determinacy of the objects is only a faint, secondary motive, Koltay is quite vocal in her criticism of inherited world views that fill the field of vision to the point of blinding us. They both assume that storytellers are magicians, because they create with their words - in the case of aesthetically overstated sculptures and paintings, it is only the intention that decides whether it is a matter of voluntary preservation of tradition or of a reified pattern following under external influence.
The works on display are absurd responses to the historical-social context of the present, but also reveal a self-deprecating attitude, not only processing the shared visual experience of people in their thirties going back to childhood, but also revealing personal compulsions, whether in the form of collecting or obsession. It is not revealed who is responsible for the rapture, but a conviction is outlined: the power lies with the one who shapes the narrative. The tale, if surreal, overrides reality.”
